Informix 5.20.UC1, AIX 5.2 -908 Attempt to connect to remote system failed. IBM INFORMIX-STAR or IBM INFORMIX-NET is trying to access another computer system and has failed. Note the sitename in the current statement. Start your daemon with a log file and check for operating system errors in the log file. If this is inconclusive, contact your system administrator and ask for a check that the network is operational and that the particular site is active. -79 No record locks available. An operating system error code with the meaning shown was unexpectedly returned to the database server. It is probably the case that this implementation of the IBM Informix database server uses "kernel locking"; that is, that it uses operating system facilities for locking rows of tables. The capacity of the operating system's lock table has been exceeded. Contact your system administrator and inquire about having the operating system configured to support more locks. Also examine your database application to see if it can use fewer locks, for example, by updating fewer rows in each transaction, or by locking whole tables instead of rows. My particular customer has six AIX servers all the same version; however, none of the production servers are having this issue, just one of the two test servers. This box has little activity on it and rarely has more than 5 people logged in at any one time. It does have processes transferring data, when necessary, from this server to another. The -908 error is a bit deceptive as the server "it" is trying to connect to is itself. The engine stays up and no errors are reported within the online.log. I have the configuration LOCKS set to 100,000; however, when this condition occurs and I check the number of locks in use, it is rarely over 15. Any ideas as to why this may be happening? Thanks in advance. Take care. Clifton M. Clifton, Below the text for -79 (as reported from finderr) starts with: An operating system error code with the meaning shown..... Check /var/adm/message see if there is more info there as to why the error was returned. [...] The ISAM error messages for numbers between about 30 and 99, and arguably up to somewhere in the 230-ish range, are not necessarily the same as those produced by the operating system - they derive from ancient BSD errno values, and those do not apply to most systems derived from System V Unix. -- Jonathan Leffler #include <disclaimer.h> Email: jleffler@earthlink.net, jleffler@us.ibm.com Guardian of DBD::Informix v2005.02 -- http://dbi.perl.org/
Again, Jonathan has the right answer... When looking at /usr/include/errno.h, I found that 79 is: #define ECONNREFUSED 79 /* Connection refused */ Now THAT I can believe! Wonder if the IFMX porting people could adjust their messages accordingly...
