Sounds like you have a DOS file - as previously suggested, run the file
through dos2unix. If that doesn't work for you (i.e. you don't have it) you
can always:
awk 'BEGIN {RS="\\r"} {printf("%s\\n",$0)}' input.file > output.file
(the output file would be ready to load.)
