Can anyone help ? We are moving from Infomix 4.1 to 7.2 4GL RDS. We use various terminal emulation packes with VT100 emulation. After a while we find that the cursor keys and function keys stop working. On investigation we found that one of the options in the terminal emulation program settings "Application Cursor Keys" has been checked. When we un-check this box everything returns to normal. It sems that the un- checked box is the default option at startup. It looks as if Informix is setting this option for us, possibly as a result of a misinterpreted control sequence. We are using the same OS (HP-UX 10.20) same termcap file as we were with Informix 4.1. We tried the termcap file supplied with Informix 7.2 but this displays our screens in invisible text !!! Or rather it doesn't display our screens ... :-) Any help gratefully received. Thanks in advance Richard Moon Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
The solution is to place the "Set Keypad to Terminal Mode" command string in the TERMCAT/TERMINFO init strings option so that the keypad and cursor keys are set correctly. Similarly if you want Application mode you will need to reset the mode in the exit string. Alternatively you could redefine the cursor and keypad definitions to match Application Mode. HOEVER READ ON since I do not think the termcap file is the real problem it probably is already doing that. Here is my thought on this. 4GL 4.xx ONLY used TERMCAP, on most platforms now 4GL 7.xx uses TERMINFO. I think that your TERMCAP is fine, same as always as you state, but that the TERMINFO file for this termtype is incorrect and that is what is being used now. Check the release notes for 4GL and for your system's CURSORS package to see if they do indeed use terminfo rather than termcap. If so you will need to extract the terminal definition you were using from the termcap file (terminfo deals with separate files for each terminal type) and convert it to terminfo format, compile it, and install it. You can use the captoinfo utility to perform the conversion from termcap to terminfo source. The terminfo compiler is 'tic' and the manpage for tic should show where the compiled terminfo files are to be placed. Art S.
