informix <--> oracle connectivity

In a heterogenous environment ( oracle and informix db's on unix servers, solaris and hp ). Its probably oracle 8.X and its informix universal server 9.12UC2. I need to find out if the Informix product Enterprise Gateway Manager is what I want, for informix to be able to have access to the oracle server. Are there other products which i will want to review as well? Probably will want to set up some sort of batch read and write system between the servers. Can someone with that experience (with gateway) give me a quick overview of what it is all about, and what the requirements are? Do i need to have a dedicated nt box or can i do it all on our unix servers? Thanks!

Yes you can use Informix Enterprise Gateway and access the Oracle server as if it were another Informix server. Another alternative is a Virtual Database Server or Universal Database Server such as ISG Navigator. This is a middleware server that will take requests to both servers as ODBC queries and using it's own optimizer decide how best to farm the partial work to the Informix and Oracle servers. Navigator runs on NT and many UNIX's and it now has several competitors. Oracle is reported to be planning to select Navigator as its new gateway product. Art S. Kagel
