Re: Kill sqlexec and fglgo process.

To reiterate the point made eloquently by Ahmad: *** DO NOT KILL INFORMIX ENGINES (SE or ONLINE) *** The database engines are designed to look after your data carefully. If you kill them with untrappable signals (SIGKILL) while they are part way through some operation on your behalf, they cannot finish what they are doing, and this can corrupt your data. And with OnLine, if the sqlturbo is in a critical section when it is killed, the mess cannot be cleaned up and OnLine has to go offline. If there is a front-end associated with the engine, by all means kill that; the engine should then go away. But do not kill the engine itself. And be polite about it when you do -- do not use SIGKILL (kill -9) except as a last resort, and expect to have to pick up the pieces... --- Separately, in 6.00 and later releases of OnLine, instead of having one sqlturbo process per user appication, you get one thread in the central, multi-threaded server process set. The actual CPU VP (virtual processor) which handles requests from a single user process may change over time. --- Yours, Jonathan Leffler (johnl@informix.com) #include <disclaimer.h> >From: PAKHRI@aseam.po.my (Ahmad Pakhri Yahya / Aseam6) >To: johnl@informix.com, informix-list@rmy.emory.edu >Date: Thu, 4 Jan 1996 12:46:22 +0800 >Subject: Re: Kill sqlexec and fglgo process. > >I have a very bad experience when I killed sqlturbo.
