With one user on a machine, the single executable will probably be quicker, because there'll be enough memory to go around. If you have lots of users all using the large program, then they will probably need more memory than if they were using smaller programs, so the system will grind to a halt more quickly. I'd suggest using the smaller programs. Does the SCO port have shared libraries? If so, use them. I think it probably doesn't because SCO shared libraries aren't as easy to handle as SVR4, but ...
