RE: RAID Question
Posted in 2000
If the disks are striped by the OS it only gives me 8 volume groups. Each volume group consists of 2 disks. Placing a table across 4 groups will only give me two sets of groups (4 disks) to work with. I can't point to a disk individually unless it is its own volume group. I guess what I am trying to get at is if its better for the OS to do the striping or should Informix do the striping with fragmentation. I believe, looking at all my options, that it is better for Informix to handle it. Using 16 36GB disks that are machine mirrored what's the best configuration for a DSS environment?? I am interested more in disk I/O performance rather than fault tolerance. (I guess that would be summing it up, eh?)
