My though is that >(it might be wrong), since this is a one-way interface, we'll be a client >and we should not need I-STAR. Is this assumption correct? If you are trying to access the database on machine A from another machine (either PC or UNIX based), then you need I*STAR on machine A with the same identical version as your engine on machine A. Futhermore, the machine that your application is running on requires an Informix networking product, I*NET if you are using an interface (i.e., 4GL, ISQL) or I*STAR if you are running OnLine. Machine A must be a trusted machine (rlogin privileges). This can be done via the .rhost file on machine A. Both machine requires identical and unique services entry in the /etc/services file. Lastly, there needs to be an sqlexecd daemon running on Machine A. ############################################################## David Nguyen Internet: davidn@geis.geis.com GE Information Services UUCP: uunet!ge!davidn 401 North Washington Street Voice: 1-301-340-5461 Rockville, MD 20850 USA ##############################################################
