Hi all, I want to configure a database on another system because of capacity problems. I want to store my customers data on that other machine. I'm am running on SuSe 10.1 with IDS 9.40. Is there anywhere some documentation about this topic? Met vriendelijke groeten / Sincères salutations / Kind regards, Danny De Koster <mailto:ddk@fidelity-soft.be> <http://www.fidelity-soft.be> <http://www.fidelity-soft.be/> <http://www.fidelity-soft.be> <http://www.fidelity-soft.be>
Create your table on the other system and load it. - set up these files on each server so that each instance can connect to each other - /etc/hosts - /etc/hosts.equiv - $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts - in your current system, create a synonym to the new remote one: "create synonym table_name for rem_database@rem_server:table_name" (something like that!) Hope this helps, but be warned, there are arguments for and against using synonyms to remote servers. Danny,
The easiest way is for you to create the table on other machine and then on
the machine where you have your main database - create a synonym referring to
the table on other machine.
create synonym your_table_name for oth-mc-db-name@oth-mc-tcp:oth-mc-table-name;
Sunil.
