Continuous Log Restore

Hi,
I have an IDS11.10 on windows and I use onbar to take backups.
on the same IDS server I use ontape -a & alarmprogram.bat to backup logical
logs as the are filled up and store them on disk using the format
logical_log.lognum.
I want to have a remote standby server in the case of a primary failure.
So I did the following:
1. On secondary I have restored that last full primary's backup using onbar.
2. I have transferd the all logical logs logical_log.lognum on the secondary
3. primary and rss have the same definitions as concerns LTAPEDEV, LTAPESIZE,
LTAPEBLK.
4. on rss I run ontape -l -C.
Questions:
1. is it possible to complex onbar and ontape commands or I have to use either
onbar or ontape for both data and logical log backups/restores?
2 How I can find which is the first logical log that I have to restore?
[rename it from logical_log.lognum to logical_log]
LTAPEDEV is pointing to a file e:\\\\directory\\\\logical_log
Thanks in advance
sszago
hi
You cant mix onbar and ontape
ontape is easier to use for restore purposes on another server especially for
small databases.
As for what log is needed when you do your restore it will tell you.
Also in the on line log when you do backup log is noted e.g
18:45:40 Level 0 Archive started on rootdbs, blobspc1, logspace, dataspc1,
repspace
18:46:37 Archive on rootdbs, blobspc1, logspace, dataspc1, repspace Completed.
18:55:42 Checkpoint Completed: duration was 0 seconds.
18:55:42 Sun Sep 25 - loguniq 390, logpos 0x12d1018,
There is probably a better way to tell what logs to use
One of the experts on this forum will be able to tell you
Ideally you want to back up when no one using db and restore while no one
using it. Not easy if 24 x7 system of course.
We use enterprise replication which makes syncing databases easy.
