Hi, When IDS did level-1 backup ,How to identify which pages are modified after the last level-0 backup? Thanks for your time.
Every disk page has a what is called a timestamp on it. This is not a timestamp which keeps time, but rather a counter. Every time a page is updated the counter is increased. When an archive is started a checkpoint is done and the timestamp counter is saved off. To take a level 1 archive we scan all used disk pages looking for pages in which the timestamp is larger than the level 0 counter that was saved at the archive checkpoint. John F.
