Doubt in configuring IDS for multiple network cards.

Topics: Networking & sqlhosts Configuration
Hi people,
My server have to work in two different subnets, but with the same
dbservername, so I can't do the bellow configuration (like manual says):
in $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts
online_tcp1 onsoctcp hostname1 service1
online_tcp2 onsoctcp hostname2 service2
and it didn't work if I put the same dbservername with two different
hostanames.
If somebody have one solution or idea ... Thanks !
Christian.

all you need is a NIC that supports subnet grouping.

you have heard what the clowns have had to say about subneting...
Now here is the answer.
You need is a multi-port NIC that can group subnets together. Adaptec sells
that kind of NIC. The card has 4 ports that can be logically grouped to one ip
address. Up to 3 of those NICs can also be bundled so that up to 3x4 or 12
subnets are on one dbsevername.
With the NIC or NICs in place you get your subnets all tied into one server.

Actually the easiest way to access your server
from multiple subnets is to simply wildcard your
sqlhosts entry for the server. Then restart it.
Your sqlhosts would look something like this:
server_1 ontlitcp *hostname inf_service
This causes online to listen on all available ip
addresses. The server is now accessible from any
subnet by the name server_1.
