I am running an IBM R30 at AIX 4.1.4 and Informix Online 7.11.UC1.
We have purchased and ADSM system and are facing some big problems. Even
though IBM told us you can do Informix backups, they failed to mention a
few little "gothchas". Apparently, OFFLINE backups are not problem, but
ONLINE backups will only work if you dump your data out to a cooked file
system using "ontape" and then backup that file system using the ADSM
utilities! Can you believe it?
You need to have enough available disk to match your largest
dbspace. I really love leading edge technology that requires disk space
to do tape backups. Fascinating, isn't it!
I really don't feel to comfortable about the whole thing, do you?
