Re: How to turn the echo off within a 4gl application

From bigbang.isg.com!fsc0@uunet.uu.net: * * * Hello fellow netters, * * I am not sure if someone has posed this question before or not. * I am writing a informix 4gl program and there are a couple of fields on * the screen that I do not want the user to see what he or she is * typing in. * * Is there a way to turn the echo off within an informix 4gl program? * Or is there a way to echo asterisk to the screen while the user is typing? * * I am playing with the color attribute (like using black on black, * etc) but that does not seem to work too well on some terminals. I am * currently using informix 4gl version 4.1 with Informix Online 4.1 as my * database engine. * * Any comment or suggestion will be greatly appreciated. In version 4.1 and greater of Informix ( I think about the greater part, anyway ) You can use with the INPUT statement ATTRIBUTE( INVISIBLE ). This causes whatever to be typed in to not be displayed on the screen. Ex. DEFINE usrcode CHAR(10), password CHAR(10) INPUT BY NAME usrcode ( etc... ) END INPUT INPUT BY NAME password ATTRIBUTE( INVISIBLE ) ( etc... ) END INPUT Hope this helps, Robert Minter |Data Systems Support| \\\\\\_/// Programmer, Software Development | Orange, CA | ( _ _ ) internet: rob@dssmktg.com | Tel: 714.771.0454 | (| ^ |) bangpath: uunet.uu.net!dssmktg!rob| Fax: 714.771.3028 | \\`-'/ I used to not know, now I know I don't know. \\_/
