4gl locale problem

hello, i am trying to export an informix database version 6 4gl version 4.11 running on sco openserver 5 to an informix database version 9.3 4gl version 7.31 running in linux(fedora), im new on informix, i have managed to configure almost all the database settings, but i when i try to run a 4gl program, it compiles perfectly, but i have a problem with some spanish only characters, i have tried to establish the CLIENT_LOCALE variable to es_es.8859-1 before compiling and after compiling and also tried all the spanish locales that are in lc11.txt and there wasnt any change althought i am able to use the them once i am using the program, (i mean write them, not see the ones i put on the 4gl files) in any place where there should be a spanish character there is nothing, for example, A'o => Ao. (i dont know if you are able to see the "'") but i can put them on the fields (for example name: [ I'aki]) Thanks
