Hi there, Has anybody a workaround for the following problem. With the i4gl or r4gl you can make programs. The number of programs that can be viewed is limited. More or less about 92. Is there a sollution for viewing more programs? Because me application has more than 92 programs! Thanks Danny

I supose this must be a limitation of it. Strange number to choose: 92. You will find that most 4GL developers eventually move on to using the Unix make program for compiling 4GL programs. It is more flexible. If you don't know how to make make (!) do what you want, get back and someone (me?) can give you some make rules to get you going. -- Peter Lancashire Information Systems Specialist, Bayer plc Eastern Way, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP32 7AH, UK Tel: +44-1635-562258, Fax: +44-1635-562281 -- If all else fails, read the instructions and the release notes. I hope you are on a very old version of the product, because this is a REALLY old bug, 5267 or something like that. Older than dirt. Older than me (or at least, older than my association with Informix :-) > You will find that most 4GL developers eventually move on to using the > Unix make program for compiling 4GL programs. It is more flexible. If you have not already hit this bug (but I suppose you have), then I second Peter's suggestion to use "make". If you have encountered it, then try calling your Tech Support hotline and getting a copy of a 4GL program I once wrote to do a command-line compile of your programs, reading the information out of syspgm4gl. It's in TechInfo. Actually, I'd suggest modifying the program to simply write out the information to a file which you can then use as the basis for your "make" file. Also, if you really are on such an old version of the product, then I think you should upgrade. If you are on a current release, then don't tell me; I don't want to know. Hi: I've fought this battle since the late '80s and I have ended up using the Unix make utility. Now, I hear you say, "That's fine for compiled programs, but what about RDS"? I ended up using the suite of shell scripts provided by Fourgen (now called Endura). Their number is 1-800-333-4436. And no: I am not connected with them at all; they just have a product I find useful. If you have any questions, shoot me back an email, regards, Ed Schaefer Fidelity Soft & Hard wrote: > Hi there, > > Has anybody a workaround for the following problem. If you want to compile RDS under Unix make - take your existing makefile, convert 4ge to 4gi, .o to .4go then compile using fglpc and add cat <whatever> > program.4gi. Works a treat. I have seen it done alot more elagantly in one script but it works fine for me. If you want a copy of one of my makefiles ( 4ge or 4gi ) email me.
