I made the upgrade to 7.3 from 5.0 so you may already have overcome the problems I had. However just in case (and for the benefit of tothers) .There are two things I had trouble with - Firstly I had to install a lot of patches - they are listed in the machine specific release notes (IDS_7.3). The actual patch numbers that Informix give are out of date but if you go to the HP Electronic Support Centre that will give you the new patches if you search for the old ones (does that make sense ? ). Without these 7.3 just would not run. Secondly you have to change your kernel parameters. I had great problems with these. Informix give you some settings for semaphores , shared memory and messages which when I tried them left me with an unbootable kernel Informix insist that these settings will not cause problems as they "simply remove limits imposed by the operating system" - but they did on my system. I don;t have the time to try every option with every parameter so I have now built a kernel which works by reducing the settings which Informix suggest. However I don't really know whether I have done the right thing. (For example Informix sugeest setting semmns (and other realted paramters) to 4096. (Standard kernel setting is arounf 100). I ended up setting them to 1024 - it works but I don't know the implications of this) I soent a long time talking to Informix and HP support but they disagreed radically on their recommendations, leaving me very confused.
