] Hi Folks, ] ] Some of you must be using Cognos reposrt writer. I would like to know ] how ] this works. Does it create views/superviews on the database? does it ] create ] temp tables on the DB ? Or rather does it write anything to the Informix ] database. I am evaluating this product and would like to know about Impromptu uses it's own layer outside the database known as an Impromptu catalog that allows you to present a business perspective to users creating their own reports. This layer has many features that provide for security and control to the catalog admins. When a report query is prepared Impromptu's internal SQL generation logic is pushed into our relational data service layer which communicates with an RDBMS via either a native interface, ODBC or other certified middleware. As much 'push-down' of the required querie(s) to the RDBMS is attempted as possible. -- Nigel Campbell Voice: (613) 738-1338 ext 3016 P.O.
