Not in great detail, but here goes.
I didn't think there WAS a version number in $INFORMIXDIR/etc/.snfile, just
the product name and serial number.
dbaccess -V will give you the engine version number, which should match thaton the box.
The VERSION field in systables is set when the database is created. I think
this is also set when major changes occur during an upgrade (generally the
first time the database is opened), but I could be wrong here. Certainly
it is possible to have an older version in this field than the current
engine running.
