Yes, it means that you are waiting for all sessions to get out of a critical section so that you can do a checkpoint. Hope this hleps

Are only alternative was to bring down the engine and let it go through fast recovery. > Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

What are you using for backups?
How long had the backup been running?
My understading is that a CKPT ARCHIVE copies the old image of the
modified pages which have not been backed up to a temporary table so that
they can be backed up, hence allowing you to get a point in time snapshot
I only have two ideas on what could cause this to cause a long checkpoint
when normal activity would not, but I am by no means an expert, especially
on 9.2.
1. You ran out of space to write the old pages for pages that were
modfied during the archive.
2. Maybe a full checkpoint is required during a backup(as in flushing all
the buffers) and so you are not
getting the benefit of fuzzy checkpoints, hence much longer checkpoints.
I don't do any admin work on 9.2
anymore, so cant test this far flung theory.
If it happens again, maybe you can on an onstat -F and see if your page
cleaners are busily working away,
as
well as look and see if you are out of space on any temporary dbspaces.
Just some guesses,
Will
