Re: Informix Startup on HP-UX UNIX

The procedure is in the fine manuals. Esentially you use the command
onmode -ky I seem to remember. You have to make sure a bunch ofenvironement variables are set correctly first by your script.
Check your manual for the exact onmode parameters to do an immediate
shutdown of OnLine.
I never put the startup of online into any of the startup script. If I
ever get a crash of the machine I want to have full manual control
over when OnLine is restarted. Of course you can allways go into
single user mode first and remove your startup script. One day you may
forget though.
The other side of this is if you have an auto restart mode to take
care of restart after power outages and similar situations. Than I
would put controls into the startup script to make sure the machine
was stoped for such a reason before I restarted OnLine. This is
perhaps a little paranoid, but on the other hand our machines stop
only once ever other year or so, if that often.
