Roger F. Meyers could not start Informix with oninit on NT as a non-informix user ('Only user informix can start Informix Dynamic Server'). Daniel McDowell suggested checking membership of the Informix group. Roger found a readme saying to start the server from NT services instead, which worked. Hagen Lindenthal added that net start with the service name also works; the service must log on as informix.

Hi!
When I log onto NT as informix I can start informix (oninit). When I try
to start informix as a different user I get:
D:\\informix\\bin>oninit
Only user informix can start Informix Dynamic Server.
Does anyone know of a way around this?
TIA!
Roger

You may want to verify that this user has the privileges to start Informix.
If you goto the user manager, under admin tools. Double click on the user to
look at its properties. Now, click on the groups button on the bottom left
hand corner. There should be an Informix group in the list, you want to make
sure you are a member of that group.
I guess go ahead and try to start it again under this other username,
hopefully it will start.
I hope this is of some help!!!!!!!

Hi!
I ran across a readme that said to not use oninit, but to go to NT services
and start the server there. That allows me to start the server as informix
even though I am running as administrator...
Thanks!
Roger

You also can start informix as service,
command:
net start "informix Dynamic Server" or
net start ol_servername
Informix-Service must logon with user-account "informix"
you can see all started services with
net start
also you can stop each service with
net stop <service-name>
