Good ole MSAccess

Reverse engineering a 'doze based application (Access). Access 7.0 has a neat feature called 'analyse->documentor'. Hey let's give it a whirl! 45 minutes later (on a 90mhz pentium 32MB ram) Access has rendered 233 pages of information on every object in the small database - the first page list a column followed by all of its properties (all blank). It managed to get 5 of these on one page. Print it? - ok - let's pop it into Word using that nice little button. Access then tries to put it into RTF format. Choked on page 79 - out of memory (!!!!!). Try again - this time shut everything else down, only ask for minimal info (who wants pages and pages of blank properties anyway?). 2 hours later Access has now rendered 645 pages of more meaningless drivel. Skip to the last page get this nice message on the bottom "Formatting - press Ctrl-Break to stop". So I did. It stopped. It also closed the window with all the results - throwing them away. I love MicroSoft products. My cow-orker tossed in Sdesigner. First time I'd ever seen it. Within 10 seconds we had the schema for the 10 tables in the Access system. Ok, I'm being hard on Access - if you counted views and synonyms it was 135 tables. It took SDesigner a whole 30 seconds to get THAT info. Does it run under a real OS? cheers j. _____________________________________________________________________________ Jack Parker - Hewlett Packard, DMD/IS Boise, Idaho, USA jparker@boi.hp.com Currently on loan to PLD/PE _____________________________________________________________________________ If anything can go wrong, fix it.
