This used to be really critical. As of 7.1? (something) this requirement is supposed to be fixed. The problem was that the tools, which are usually a version behind the engine, overwrite the message files which the engine installs. If you tar your current installation first and then install 4GL you should be OK now. If not you will be able to restore the tar archive to fix anything that the 4GL install broke. BE SURE TO TAR AND UNTAR AS ROOT so that permissions are correct after restoring. Perhaps Jonathan or someone else from Informix will comment on this plan so you can feel more comfortable? BTW you should be able to get new media as long as your support is up-to-date. Art S. Kagel
