Restore backup and Archecker Failed...
Posted in 2008
Summary
A user on IDS 7.31 FD2 / HP-UX 11.00 made a level-0 ontape archive to a filesystem file (~270GB, TAPEBLK 1024), which reported success, but both 'ontape -r' and archecker failed, reporting the archive corrupted with 164 tables missing data and errors such as 'missing physical page' / 'page not found in bitmaps'. Suggestions: run oncheck on the source databases, since the corruption may be in the database itself (possibly requiring unloading/dropping/reloading the affected table), and check whether the backup file exceeded the 2GB large-file limit for filesystem 'tapes' in that version, with workarounds like using a remote host:device notation or dd'ing to a real tape. No confirmed resolution is recorded in the thread.

Hi,
IDS 7.31 FD2
HP-UX 11.00
first, sorry my poor english..
I tried restore a archive Level 0 and failed...
When test the backup file with archecker , failed too...
The backup file is create over file system:
TAPEDEV /backup/L_backup
TAPEBLK 1024 # Tape block size (Kbytes)
TAPESIZE 400000000 # Maximum amount of data to put on tape (Kbytes)
The size of backup file is approximate 270GB.
This backup take 12 hours to execute (normally takes 4 hours) because a heavy user process are executed parallel...
The execution of ontape -s -L 0 for this backup are return successfully...
The ontape -r output :
--------
...
Continue restore? (y/n)y
Do you want to back up the logs? (y/n)n
Physical restore failed - The archive backup is corrupted.
Program over.
/teste/arc >

the output of archecker:
-------
...
Scan PASSED
Control page checks PASSED
Reserve page validation PASSED
Table checks FAILEDt_tdi_refer
BLOBChunk checks PASSED
Tables/Fragments validated: 1889
Tables with missing data: 164
Total missing pages: 578325
-----------
look in ac_msg.log , show a lot of erros like:
-------
ERROR: Table dbgestao:st_log_codigo partnum 0x03300002 missing physical page 0x0AA0ABC2
ERROR: Page 0x0aa0abc3 not found in bitmaps
-----
Somebody have any tip what I can do to avoid this situation?
Execute the backup without users process connected?
Exists any CCFLAGS to solve this?
Just a note , I already restored another backups successful with this database.... this is my first exception...
Thanks
Cesar

Have you run any onchecks against the databases?
It looks like the source database may be corrupted
ERROR: Table dbgestao:st_log_codigo partnum 0x03300002 missing
physical page 0x0AA0ABC2
ERROR: Page 0x0aa0abc3 not found in bitmaps
Oncheck should show a similar error against this table and may give
you more information on how to repair it. Or you may have to unload
the data around the bad pages, drop the table and reload

i hate to bring this up... however...
The backup file is create over file system:
TAPEDEV /backup/L_backup
TAPEBLK 1024 # Tape block size (Kbytes)
TAPESIZE 400000000 # Maximum amount of data to put on
tape (Kbytes)
if i recall correctly the backup to a filesystem to a file/ 'tape'
bigger then 2 GB was not supported/would work??!! (V731!!!)
how big is this 'file'/'tape' in reality???
you could try and fake it using
TAPEDEV <sometrustedhost>:/backup/L_backup
and put /backup/L_backup... HMMMM providing the size of the file/tape
is not 2 GB but bigger.....
or dd the file to a real tape... using the blocksize of 1024k the use
the tape to restore???!!!
check it please. hope not, but it sure sounds your in trouble....
