RE: {Spam?} Just to muddy the waters...

LOL... If you bother to read the story, the author completely ignores the fact that IBM also has IDS in its stable. I guess that this reported never attended one of IBM's PR events where IBM "talked" about IDS. To Jerry K, Stuart, "pokeymon", Serge, and everyone else who defend's IBM: The proof is in the pudding. I don't doubt that the IBM IDS team isn't doing things to promote IDS to the IT Industry. But just how effective are they? Clearly the industry press doesn't consider IBM outside of DB2. To be fair, IBM IM didn't make the investment in to PostgresSQL. IBM's VC arm did. But if I were the IDS team, I'd get creative. Here's an idea. Why doesn't Alan Caldera, who was/is in charge of the datablades, go out and get the ACR/NEMA spec for a DICOM PACS datablade? No offense, the standard is public and pretty easy to get. My brother once sent me the 0.8 release of the spec many moons ago. (American College of Radiology / North American Electronic Manufacturing Assoc.) Add to this... a NAG replacement. The NAG datablade was a C++ wrapper that called the math libraries. I believe that you could make a more generic wrapper and find another math lab to partner with. Or you could also extend the Real Time Loader and actually create "in memory tables" as a "in memory" datablade. Three new datablades in addition to the Real Time Loader, Geospatial, Geodedic, Time Series datablades that already exist. A total of 7 datablades? Oh wait, there is that Web Datablade, and I know there's at least one more that I'm forgetting.... Why do this? Hmmm. I'd consider this an IDS product line, wouldn't you? Now ask yourself, why is it important to have an IDS product line... ;-) But hey! What do I know? :-P -G Note to Pokey: There are two ways to motivate. A carrot on a stick, or a cattle prod. Since the carrot doesn't seem to work, then the cattle prod is applied. You ask me why I shame and get negative? Because it gets IBM's attention and it gets others in the community to think. > Date: Wed, 26 Mar 2008 11:39:14 +0000> Subject: {Spam?} Just to muddy the waters...> From: obnoxio@serendipita.com> To: informix-list@iiug.org> > http://www.internetnews.com/software/article.php/3736336> > I guess IBM doesn't have enough on its plate just differentiating IDS and> DB2, huh?> > -- > Bye now,> Obnoxio> > "There were a myriad of problems which conspired to corrupt your reason> and rob you of your common sense.
