You can define transactions in Informix by "BEGIN WORK" and "COMMIT WORK". In case of troubles (i.e. COMMIT WORK is not reached) everything will be rolled back to the status at the beginning of the transaction (BEGIN WORK). Which functions specifically are you looking for - some probably have counterparts, some do not...

Transact-SQL is Sybase's SQL dialect/extensions, MS SQL Server only supports this dialect because SQL Server V1.0 WAS Sybase for Windows and as usual MS managed to wangle themselves a contract that allowed them to take over the source and create competing product. But that is an aside. Like Oracle, Sybase never had an easy development environment so they packed as many features into their SQL extensions as possible. Informix on the other hand has ALWAYS had ISQL, 4GL, and ESQL/C with which users could easily extend the features of the database in their applications. Consequently the SQL dialect in Informix is mostly standards compliant. Informix supports ANSI SQL and it's own extensions, mercifully few BTW. However, some of the Transact-SQL functions may have Informix equivalents. Art S. Kagel
