New utility and requred update of an old one
Posted in 2000
Hi Family!
Some years ago I submitted beautify-unl.sh to the iiug archives. Some
months ago I submitted an update. Both had one little flaw: the
assumption that all lines of the input file have the same number of
fields as the first row. This was, of course, valid for the .UNL files
it was originally written for but was now becoming a drag for other
files.
I have just released version 1.10 of beautify-unl.sh to the IIUG
archives. Use URLs:

Now my main reason for finally implementing this fix was to beautify
the output of a NEW shell-script utility:
I have just released version 1.0 of dup-auth.sh. This utility generates
SQL command that duplicate authorizations (y'know, permissions) at the
table or column level. But it grew into much more:
- In can generate REVOKE commands instead of GRANT commands.
- It can be told to generate commands by table, user and permission.
- It can generate commands for table, user and permissions NOT in a
list.
So if you manager tells you, the DBA, that only moe, larry and shemp
should have update, delete and insert permissions on tables shake and
bake, you can [generate SQL to] revoke these permissions from the 769
users who should NOT have these permissions:
$ dup-auth.sh -r -d stores \\
-t shake,bake \\
-a update,delete,insert \\
-U moe,larry,shemp
This will generate commands like:
revoke update on shake from gracie;
revoke update on shake from abbot;
revoke delete on bake from oliver;
You can save these in a script and later feed them to SQL.
Hey, I claim this is useful; your opinions may vary. ;-)
dup-auth.sh is avaliable from iiug at:

The shar file includes a write-up with extensive examples.
