RE: IDS on Compaq/Digital Unix

Dale, We have a huge DEC environment (Four 6+ CPU 8400's, 2TB of disk space) running Informix 7.24.FC4, 7.30.FC3 and 7.31.FC5. The DEC ports have improved greatly from the early 7.30 and 7.2X versions -- they were terrible. We still occasionally hit DEC-specific bug #102824 on our 7.30 instances which puts incorrect log record lengths into the logical logs. This causes the engine to abort during logical recovery. Tech support can fix it sometimes, but they have had to bypass logical recovery a couple of times so we could avoid a full restore. Versions since 7.30.FC8 have been much more stable, and our upgrades to 7.31 are in progress. The hardware and OS are absolutely rock-solid (we run both EV5 and EV6 chip sets and OS versions 4.0 d,e,f). There are some cool advantages to running on a 64-bit platform such as very large memory support, LRU's > 128, etc. and the boxes are very fast. -Dave David A. Well there probably aren't many sites at True64 (Tru64?) yet, but I don't think it has actually changed much from 4.0.d|e|f.... Read the release notes carefully for various kernel requirements. But then that applies to ANY platform. Once you've done that and got the server up, I think it's one of the least finicky platforms to run Informix on. Every Informix port has bugs, but I haven't found any fatal ones yet on DEC. Although I am playing safe and running 7.30 on the five servers I look after. I'm sure that if you have specific problems and post them to the list, you will get plenty of help. Cheers, -- Mark. +----------------------------------------------------------+-----------+ | Mark D.
