Why would anyone think that limiting an end user to one instance would be acceptable. This is not something I would even care to try to explain to my users, help desk or trainers. Basically relagates NewEra to the status of shelfware. > I remember now also that on windows95, the Microsoft C compiler (version 8.00c > - I think it came with Microsoft C++ 1.5) crashes when compiling 4gl files > that are created with window painter - it crashes on the last line of the .c > file: > > static void far * NE_INITTAB _FGLinitptr = (void far *)_FGLinitc; > > At the time, I did take a look at the Microsoft Bugs section and found that > there are a series of bug reports on similar crashes of the compiler. I beg to differ with you opinion of NewEra as a good implementation of a graphic interface. I think that it is at least 18 to 24 months behind the current standard for the industry, and nowhere near state-of-the-art. I liken it to Visual Basic 2 in its appearance. Items on my hot list are no alt+ accelerator keys, no MDI support, a grid only a mother could love, no 3d or shadowed effects, no floating tool bars ... I do belive that the foundation of NewEra is very strong. The only question is whether or not Informix will be able to make it a viable product for those shops which have little to no investment in 4GL. << snip to end of quote>> -- John Gose Gose_Jo@leg.wa.gov Opinions expressed in this message do not necessarily reflect those of myself, my organization or anybody else.
