What > should I do when the col. hits max? Well, you shouldn't worry at all unless you've coded your app to order by the serial value and you would be disappointed by the order when... after Informix gets to 2,147,483,647, it starts back over, using the available numbers from 1 (or whatever your start value was). So, presuming you are still around in roughly 980 years (2,147,483,647 / 6000 / 365), you have to ask yourself: If I show the output of these new items whose serial id's have just started over at 1 before the old id's left in the system, will that bother those who are using the data? You could probably ignore the whole thing since "it will be someone else's problem for sure in 980 years!" 8-) Tim --- ~ SPEED 1.40 [NR] ~
