Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
User attempted to install Informix demo database but got errors about dbspace not found. Respondent clarified the dbspace must actually exist first—user hadn't created the 'datadbs' dbspace. After creating it properly, user encountered error 329 (database not found), which turned out to be a command syntax error trying to open a non-existent database. Issue resolved after correcting the command.

So we have Informix 11.5 installed and running. I want to install the demo
database next.
I made a datadbs dbspace.
I tried to run this command, but it says it can't find the dbspace. Do I cd
into the dbspace and install the database there?
I thought I was supposed to make a directory to hold the sample sql files and
then I cd'd into there and ran the command.
I did this and it failed. What am I doing wrong here?
mkdir samplesql
cd samplesql
dbaccessdemo -log demodatabase -dbspace datadbs
That should work, if it didn't then you probably did not create the dbspace
namely datadbs correctly, so it didn't exist.
In addition, just FYI, in Informix, "cd into the dbspace" has no meaning.

oh frig, thanks for the reply
I actually hadn't created it. I created the rootdbs, logdbs, and tmpdbs, and
moved all those files and set that all up, and then started reading about how
to do this demo database install.
Wow, too many hours at this I guess. Thanks for taking the time to help me
out. I'll give it another go here now...

It worked half way. I think it created the system databases possibly but then
it went to an error:
329: Database not found or no system permission
