Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
The poster wanted advance warning of dbspaces filling up, noting that STORAGE_FULL_ALARM only seems to fire once space has run out, and asked whether it can alert at, say, 90% full. Clive Eisen said he gave up on that alarm and instead wrote a script parsing onstat -d. Art Kagel suggested taking the source of his dbsavail utility (in the utils2_ak package on the IIUG Software Repository, with newer betas at askdbmgt.com/my-utilities) and modifying it to alert on a chosen free-space threshold. The poster felt that was beyond his skill level, so no configuration of STORAGE_FULL_ALARM itself was given.

We are trying to get some monitoring setup to let us know when diskspace is
running out. I have been reading up on this STORAGE_FULL_ALARM.
It looks to me like it alarms and sends a message to the message log once it
is out of space. Is it possible to tell it to alarm when it is 90% out of
space?

I gave up trying to get that do what I wanted and wrote something to parse
onstat -d
Clive
No need to parse onstat -d output. You could take the code for my dbsavail
utility and modify it to send a message anytime a dbspace falls below 90%
free or 100,000 pages free or whatever rule you want. It's not hard, most
of the code is there.

Dbsavail is part of my utils2_ak package. Like my other utilities it is
downloadable from the IIUG Software Repository (www.iiug.org/software).
However, the latest Beta release is also available on my own website at:

I think that is a bit above my knowledge. It looks to me like there are at
least 10 of these which I'm guessing the latest is the most recent. I don't
think I could set that up, but thanks anyhow.
