Informix Developer Edition on ARM/BeagleBone Black
Posted in 2015
Guy asked what prerequisites are needed to install Informix Developer Edition on a BeagleBone Black running Debian (having already done it on a Raspberry Pi 2). Mike Walker replied that little is needed beyond installing ksh (for ALARMPROGRAM) and a suitable Java. Guy's installer wrongly claimed he was running as non-root; this turned out to be caused by using Oracle Java 1.8 (which also produced a libnativeAPI.so loading error). Switching to OpenJDK 7 (java-7-openjdk-armhf) fixed it, and Guy confirmed the install then completed cleanly.

Hi, Before installing Informix DS on my BeagleBone Black (running Debian) I would like to know the pre-requisites: Linux libraries, gcc/g++, etc. that need to be install? I already installed on my Raspberry Pi 2 (running Raspbian). Are the pre-reqs the same for BBB? Thanks. Guy
Hi Guy, I installed Informix Developer Edition on the Beaglebone Black (Debian), and the only things that I had to do was to install "ksh" (required by ALARMPROGRAM) and also upgrade the Java (otherwise the install falsely complained that it was a non-root install). Otherwise it was a very smooth install. Hi Mike, Thanks. I suppose you mean by "otherwise the install falsely complained that it was a non-root install" after starting as user root or sudo ./ids_install you get this message? This is what I get: =============================================================================== Restart the installation application ------------------------------------ You are logged on with a non-root user ID. The following features are not supported in non-root installations: * Distributed connections * Enterprise Replication * High-availability clusters * The IBM OpenAdmin Tool for Informix (OAT) * The ON-Bar utility for backup and restore * The onperf utility for monitoring performance * Role separation If you want to use one or more of those features, you must restart the installation application using a root user ID. Do you want to close the installation application and restart with root privileges? ->1- Yes 2- No ENTER THE NUMBER OF THE DESIRED CHOICE, OR PRESS <ENTER> TO ACCEPT THE DEFAULT: Does this compromise the installation? thanks. Exactly right. Look into updating java and try again Sent from my HTC ----- Reply message ----- From: "GUY DILLEN" <guy.dillen@skynet.be> To: <ids@iiug.org> Subject: Informix Developer Edition on ARM/Beag.... I don't understand: when installing a vanilla Debian on BBB, as far as I know/can see there's no Java installed with it. So I installed the latest Oracle Java 1.8.0_33. Is this correct? Or does Informix needs OpenJdk? Thanks. Guy
Not sure, it's been a while. I'll take a look when I get home. Guy, Try the Open-JDK. I'm looking back at the install logs, and for the SUCCESSFUL install it shows: sun.boot.class.path: /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-armhf/jre/lib/resources.jar /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-armhf/jre/lib/rt.jar /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-armhf/jre/lib/sunrsasign.jar /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-armhf/jre/lib/jsse.jar /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-armhf/jre/lib/jce.jar /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-armhf/jre/lib/charsets.jar /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-armhf/jre/lib/rhino.jar /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-armhf/jre/lib/jfr.jar /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-armhf/jre/classes java.ext.dirs: /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-armhf/jre/lib/ext /usr/java/packages/lib/ext java.version == 1.7.0_65 (Java 1) java.vm.name == OpenJDK Zero VM java.vm.vendor == Oracle Corporation java.vm.version == 24.65-b04 java.vm.specification.name == Java Virtual Machine Specification java.vm.specification.vendor == Oracle Corporation java.vm.specification.version == 1.7 java.specification.name == Java Platform API Specification java.specification.vendor == Oracle Corporation java.specification.version == 1.7 java.vendor == Oracle Corporation java.vendor.url == http://java.oracle.com/ java.class.version == 51.0 java.compiler == null java.home == /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-armhf/jre java.io.tmpdir == /tmp For the FAILED install (complained of a non-root install...), I was using Java 1.8: java.version == 1.8.0_06 (Java 1) java.vm.name == Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM java.vm.vendor == Oracle Corporation java.vm.version == 25.6-b23 which was followed by the error: Unknown product: IBM Informix Dynamic Server BundleError loading nativeAPI:/tmp/ismp005/libnativeAPI.so Message: null Custom Action: com.ibm.informix.install.LoadAPI Status: ERROR Additional Notes: ERROR - class com.ibm.informix.install.LoadAPI.install() Unexpected Fatal Error: Good luck with the install - it should go smoothly after this java nonsense. Hi Mike, It installs/works perfectly with OpenJDK 7. No warnings/errors in the logfiles. Thanks. Guy
