We went through this a few months back with Informix. It true, that they do not
have a "governor" in the engine controlling the number of concurrent
connections. It's all on the honor system! However, when you involve Web or
Middleware, I think it gets more confusing. Like Art said, it does make
negotiations interesting!
To count your connections, you can do an "onstat -g ath | grep sqlexec" to get
the current connections. We actually put this is a cron job and let it run for
a week to get an accurate idea of connections.
