A possibility might be to send the report to a shell script that first writes the report to disk ($tmp_file), then: echo '^[[5i\\c' sleep 2 cat $tmp_file sleep 2 echo '^[[4i\\c' sleep 1 rm $tmp_file the ^[ in the two 'echo' statements is actually the <escape> character (ASCII 27). Those codes usually redirect output from the screen to the printer port, then redirect it back to the screen, respectively.
