Veritas & OnBar Question : Moving Instances from one machine to another.
Posted in 2000
Hi,
Copy the ixbar.<server num> file from $INFORMIXDIR/etc on machine X to machine Y.
This file contains the information about the successful backups for the dbspaces and logical logs.
In case of onbar, for any backup, each object has got a different timestamp so logical logs
are very important to restore the instance. ( ontape has only one timestamp )
You have 3 options to restore : upto certain timestamp, upto certain logical log or upto the last successfully
backed up logical log. ( full restore )
For your second question, you can find the timestamp or the logical log number upto which you want to resore
and run the onbar command with those options.
Thanks.

Subject: Veritas & OnBar Question : Moving Instances from one machine to another.
Hi There,
I hope you can help .. I have a couple of questions .
I have just installed Veritas Storage Manager V 3.2 and have started using
Onbar.
It's all working fine and I am quite happy with it. We backup all file systems
using Veritas
and now it's time for the Databases to be done using this
I would like to know however, how it is possible to recover a Level 0 Archive
made on
machine with onbar x to machine Y. Both machines are set up to use veritas for
Informix backups
of course
I know how to do this with ontape and do it all the time to refresh UAT
systems...
so all the right chunks of the right sizes and sqlhosts & services are all ok.
But
with Onbar I cannot find out how to do this.
Also, if I have 6 backups on Veritas and do not want to go back to the last
backup
but the third previous one how do I tell onbar to do this ? I have looked
into the
Doc as but am either blind and cannot see it or it's not there.
If anyone can help me it would be very much appreciated.
Regards
Graham Mitchell
