Hi Guys, I got a enviroment with HDR in two AIX maxhines. What is the rule for backup logs in secondary server? I try to start a logical log backup and, the only situation it was finished with sucess, the secondary server was turned to standard mode. What is the problem if I don´t execute a logical backup on secondary server ? Do I really have to do it ? Thanks, André _________________________________________________________________ Ligue para os amigos com a Chamada de PC para PC - GRATUITO http://get.live.com/messenger/overview
Hi, Log backup is not supported on secondary instance. You should backup the logs in the primary instance. Hi, you do it on primary server only (as already noted). You cannot do it on secondary server. And if you do it on primary server (as is recommended), then there is no need at all to do it on secondary server. So there is no problem. [ In fact HDR is implemented by sending logical log records from primary server to the secondary server. The secondary server takes these log records and applies them to the data. So the content of a log backup on secondary server anyway would be the same as on the primary server. If necessary, you can restore on secondary server logical logs that were backed up on the primary server. However, you will not get into this situation during normal operation of HDR. It is needed only in a special scenario during setup of HDR: when logs have wrapped round on the primary server after the dbspace backup and before the physical restore of this dbspace backup on secondary server is complete. Then the log necessary to continue on secondary server has already been overwritten on the primary server (the wrap around). In that case you will be asked to restore logs (backed up on primary server) from tape. ] Regards, Martin -- Martin Fuerderer IBM Informix Development Munich, Germany Information Management IBM Deutschland GmbH Vorsitzender des Aufsichtsrats: Hans Ulrich Maerki Geschäftsführung: Martin Jetter (Vorsitzender), Rudolf Bauer, Christian Diedrich, Christoph Grandpierre, Matthias Hartmann, Thomas Fell, Michael Diemer Sitz der Gesellschaft: Stuttgart Registergericht: Amtsgericht Stuttgart, HRB 14562 WEEE-Reg.-Nr.
