Yes, however, the normal course is to load 4GL into the same directory as the engine (SE). However, tools such as ISQL and 4GL MUST be loaded before the engine unless it is a later version! So make sure there can be no users attaching to the engine, install 4GL in $INFORMIXDIR then reinstall SE there will be no harm done. You CAN install 4GL into another directory but it is more trouble than it is worth to use it that way. Set INFORMIXDIR to the new 4GL install directory, then make an environment script the sets INFORMIXDIR to that for compiling and sets INFORMIXSQLHOSTS to the location of the sqlhosts file in the engine directory. As I said more trouble than it's worth. Just reinstall SE after 4GL. Art S. Kagel
Please Help I have successfully installed informix SE on linux . I have downloaded the zip file for informix 4gl for Linux. I unzipped it in /opt/informix ($INFORMIXDIR) and what was created was a directory with various files and a install 4gl script. When running the install4gl script an error occured : INFORMIXDIR current working directory do not match. INFORMIXDIR = /opt/informix current working directory is /opt/informix/4gl230uc1_linux Because i have Informix SE in /opt/informix how can l get around this. If i copy the contents of the 4gl directory to /opt/informix, won't the existing directries for Informic SE (eg. /etc) be overwritten. Please help Thank You Regards Mr B Singh
