ISM OnBar and multiple instances
Posted in 1999
Hi there,
I have just upgraded our site to Informix 7.31.UC4 under HP-UX 10.20,
and I would appreciate some pointers to using the Informix supplied
onbar package (ISM/onbar).
I know that it is a cut-down version of Legato Networker, but I would
like to know the following:
1. On our development machine we have several instances, can these be
backed up to one tape as different files and can these be easily
restored/identified?
2. On our production system, we have spread the main database over four
dbspaces, will onbar be able to backup these dbspaces in parallel to one
DLT 4000 drive? Or does this require multipe tape drives?
3. Again on production, the ability to do [supported] logical log
backups to disk with onbar is quite appealing, especially if driven by
an alertmonitor script to automatically do this. Anyone had problems
setting this up?
We currently use ontape on both machines to DLT4000 drives, but hope to
switch to onbar to keep up with the times, and also to get extra
features/performance. I tried to justify a central backup solution but
the costs were too prohibitive!
Any help appreciated...
