Hi there, I'm trying to connect to an IDS 7.30 - running on HP9000/800-Server (HP-UX 10.20) - via Esql but every time I send a sql-query to the database an error 461 is returned: "File open error. This statement transfers a value between a file and a BYTE or TEXT column. Since the locator structure field loc_loctype was set to LOCFNAME, the database server tried to open the file using the pathname in loc_fname and the flags in loc_oflags. An operating-system error was returned. Check the accompanying ISAM error code for more information, and look for operating-system messages. Typical causes include lack of disk space, file permission problems, and limits on the number of open files." I've absolutely no idea where (the variable ?) "LOCFNAME" could be set (in informix) or which file is meant in "...file using pathname in loc_fname". The same Binary I use to connect to this database is working fine on another system (also HP9000/800 HP-UX 10.20 and IDS 7.30). Any helpful suggestion will be appreciated tomy ---------------------------------------------------------------- Thomas Stainer thomas.stainer@open-it.at ----------------------------------------------------------------
Thomas, if there is no blob operation involved I suspect that there is an installation problem. I have seen this error before when an incorrect version of I-Connect was installed. As you indicate that this program is working fine on a different HP box you should probably verify that you have the same frontend versions installed. Hope this helps, Heiko Thomas Stainer wrote: > Hi there, > > I'm trying to connect to an IDS 7.30 - running on HP9000/800-Server (HP-UX > 10.20) - via Esql but every time I send a sql-query to the database an error > 461 is returned: > "File open error. > > This statement transfers a value between a file and a BYTE or TEXT column. > Since the locator structure field loc_loctype was set to LOCFNAME, the > database server tried to open the file using the pathname in loc_fname and the > flags in loc_oflags. I have seen this problem before. Check the INFORMIXDIR env variable. -461 is almost always a spurious error caused by the ESQL app not recognizing the message files it found. Usually it is because of version mixing either in the link (objects compiled with different versions), dynamic link (dynlinking a shared library from an older/newer version than the executable), or runtime due to a misdirected INFORMIXDIR pointing to older/newer message files.
