Help with PC-NET / MS Access

Hi, I need some help. We are trying to use MS Access, Q&E ODBC Driver , and 4.10 PC_Net going to a Online system running STAR. The database I am going to has about 300,000 records and is a very busy database. The table I am quering against is always being used. I a trying to do some very large count(*)'s. I keep getting the error -246. I think it is the default isolation level.(big guess) If I could I would do a isql - - set isolation to dirty read; isql - - set lock mode to wait 30; but I can't do it thru access. (at least I don't think I can). Has any one had this problem?? Any ideas on help???
