I'm just guessing, but I don't think this is a safe thing to do. Back when I was using I4GL instead of RDS, I forgot to recompile after one upgrade, and discovered that there had been substantial changes in the Informix libraries that were being called, so that old .o files wouldn't work at all. Now, that was several versions ago, and I don't _know_ that there are significant changes in the libraries between 4.00 and 4.10, but still ... It's quite possible that some library routine has changed its calling sequence between the two versions, and that could cause unpredictable results. In effect, you're relying on undocumented interfaces, and Informix has every right to change those between versions. Unfortunately, if this is the problem, you need either to get esql 4.10, or else rewrite the .ec module in 4gl :-( Anyway, good luck ... -- Harry Bochner bochner@das.harvard.edu
