What I need to reach an Informix DBA location?

Hello I have some experience programming in Informix, I study at the University the Analysis and design of Databases, and courses about relational, distributed and object oriented ones. I want to reach a location like Database administrator. What I need to know?, only with practice is possible to reach this kind of knowledge. May be the answer is in order to know about a methodology. I am all ears. Thanks in advance.
