Stored Procedure Problem

I'm having periodic problems with a stored procedure. This stored procedure is called from a PowerBuilder application. 90+% of the time it works fine. However on occasion it will just hang and never return a value to the calling client program causing it to also hang. Any ideas why this would work most of the time and not work at others? The only pattern I've been able to see is that it seems to hang at peak access periods. Their tends to be 2x during the day that not only is the database heavily utilized but also the functions that would call this stored procedure. If it has something to do with this peak in access, what can I configure to give it more resources during these peak times?
