Sounds like a problem waiting to happen. Running out of locks can cause odd things to happen to your software. 1. If they didnt think of the fact that they might run out of locks, how thorough were they in handling errors like running out of locks. 2. How much testing is done with a low number of locks? 3. I have seen the engine start behaving funny after running out of locks (Though this was quite a few versions back... 7.10). 4. Deadlocks might be more likely. Seems like it has the potential to cause to much pain not to fix. But then again, I don't like pain. As far as the impact goes. I dont know what the solutions you are looking at, or the usage of the system, But holding a lock for 30 minutes seems like potential for causing problems.
