TSM and Informix 11.10 on Windows
Posted in 2010
Setting up ON-Bar backups from IDS 11.10 on Windows 2003 to TSM failed: the ixbar.0 file was missing and BSAQueryObject returned an unspecified XBSA error. Advice was to check directory permissions, the sm_versions entry for TSM, and that DSMI_DIR/DSMI_LOG/DSMI_CONFIG (correct 32- vs 64-bit versions) are set and in PATH. The poster fixed it by reinstalling the TSM client, correcting those variables and running txbsapswd, after which ixbar was created. A later error (-43336, logs being dismissed) was explained as LTAPEDEV being set to /dev/null (nul). Remaining questions about include/exclude files and how ON-Bar locates older TSM backups for restore went unanswered.

Hi,
We have installed recently IDS 11.10 TC30 on windows 2003 enterprise edition.
We have also Tivoli server installed
WE are trying to backup using onbar to TSM server.
TSM server version 5.3.4 and TSM client 6.
We have followed some papers about the TSM,IDS and onbar configuration.
From TSM log we can see that TSM client is connected to TSM server and moumts
a tape.

Question 1
Does ixbar. file must already exist on IDS or it will be created after the
first backup?
I have run onsmsync -b (end it successfully) but still no ixbar. file created.
Question 2.
Does the second error XBSA is the real problem?

Hello SZ,
Issue 1:
The ixbar.xxx file is a file where Informix keeps track of it's backups.
It is the external version of the sysutils database. There seems to be an
initial check on the existence of this file, which fails (errno 2 = not
exists). The file should be created if it does not exist. Check if there
is a problem with access rights settings in the directory.
Issue 2: An unspecified XBSA error can occur for various reasons. It will
help, if you provide the XBSA error number. The number specified in the
appended mail '117768210' is out of reach.
Please verify the following :
1. 'sm_versions' file exists under $INFORMIXDIR/etc and has the right
entry for TSM
2. Environment variables 'DSMI_DIR', 'DSMI_LOG' and 'DSMI_CONFIG' are set
to the right entries and are in the PATH
3. 'DSMI_LOG' has right Read/Write access permission
Also, provide the output of 'dsierror.log' file

Also watch for 32 bit vs 64 bit files for:
2. Environment variables 'DSMI_DIR', 'DSMI_LOG' and 'DSMI_CONFIG' are
set
to the right entries and are in the PATH
They could be different and need to be set correctly.

What is about this error?
Does it has to do with include/exclude file?

Hi, Where I can find XBSA error codes and their meaning? What measns '1768 XBSA Error (BSAQueryObject):'? Thanks Sergios
You could start here. https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/data/library/techarticle/dm-0603herber/ http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v115/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.b ar.doc/ids_bar_447.htm&resultof=%22xbsa%22 On Fri, Sep 3, 2010 at 8:08 AM, SERGIOS ZAGOTSIS <szagotsis@marfinbank.gr>wrote: > Hi, > > Where I can find XBSA error codes and their meaning? > > What measns '1768 XBSA Error (BSAQueryObject):'? > > Thanks > > Sergios > > > > ******************************************************************************* > Forum Note: Use "Reply" to post a response in the discussion forum. > > --0016e64c1f4e2bd3b2048f59eaaa
you are getting the message about dismissing the logs because LTAPEDEV is set
to /dev/null. Although onbar does not use the tape settings from the onconfig,
the engine marks each log as backed up when /dev/null is used in LTAPEDEV thus
you can not back them up again in onbar or use them in your restore process.
Hi and thanks for your response,
1. That LTAPEDEV is set to null explains the following message in bar_ol_....
File
Unable to start the logical log backup: Log backup to device 'nul' not allowed

complete, returning 131 (0x83)
2. Does it related with the the error on q backup 'ol_prime/*' command?

3. What I have to define in LTAPEDEV?
4. Do I have to make/define an INCLUDE/EXCLUDE file in tivoli or without the
include/exclude file every vital and neccessery informix inforamtion are

Hi,
Is it possible to explain anybody the way that TSM and onbar are related?
For example in a imported restore attempt I was not able to restore anything
until I ran the q backup .... command (in a different command prompt window).
Why that happens?
What about in the case that I want to restore older TSM informix backups? How
onbar will understand which TSM backups to use for restore?
Thanks in advance
Sergios
