Hello everybody.
I have IDS 7.31 FD6 running on AIX 5.3. For memory configuration I have
the following parameters in the onconfig file:
BUFFERS 2100000 (aprox. 8.4 GB)
SHMVIRTSIZE 767000
SHMTOTAL 0
Now see the onstat -g seg output:
Informix Dynamic Server Version 7.31.FD6XH -- On-Line -- Up 3 days
22:07:12 -- 9683936 Kbytes
Segment Summary:

The first 4GB memory segment for BUFFERS is marked as Resident but the
other two are marked as Virtual. Does anybody know why is this
happening? Will The other two BUFFERS segments behave like virtual
segments? Is there any Informix limitation that produces this?
Any explanations are welcomed.

Per the Administrator's Reference (paraphrase) since the largest single
shared memory segment is 4GB if you request > 4GB of BUFFERS the remainder
is allocated in VIRTUAL segments. If you want those segments to also be
marked as memory resident you can set RESIDENT 2 which will set the RESIDENT
segment and the first VIRTUAL segment as memory resident in the OS. If you
set RESIDENT -1 then all shared segments will be marked memory resident.
