Rename Server with Informix
Dear Friends: I need to rename a server that has Windows 2008 Server and Informix 7.31TD6 installed. It is not linked to a domain. My question is whether you can rename the server, and the Informix instance so you do not have to reinstall the engine. Thank you for your attention.
upps, rather old installation. It depends on how your clients access the server. if it is by soctcp/tlitcp which I would expect, the IP address of course needs to match and the client has an instance name (INFORMIXSERVER) somewhere. Both need to match. (INFORMIXSERVER on clients to the instance DBSERVERNAME) The instance (not sure about 7.31) might have alternative names (DBSERVERALIASES), which can point to different IP adresses of the machine (maybe on different network adapters). You need to bounce the engine to initiate the listener on the correct interface. (check with netstat if the listener is present after restart). In case you communicate via shared memory from the same machine only, also the names INFORMIXSERVER and DBSERVERNAME/ALIASES have to match and have a corresponding shm entry in sqlhosts file. ntchname.exe would be your friend. Check %informixdir%\\\\bin for this, or find it elsewhere, e.g. in a newer version.
