Is there any way to go by :(other than testing all BindVars before executing SQL command) ? Do you mean to say that the database is actually crashing? The log messages would be interesting. Or are there non even in the Informix log? However you still have to test the BindVar?'s for NULL. This statement will return nothing if any one of them are NULL. You have to change your statement to colx is null if you actually want rows returned where this is the case. If you want no rows in this case your statement is ok, but you also don't need to execute it so you would want to test anyway. Whatever you want, the database should of course not crash on such a statement (or any statement for that matter). :I use as client software Gupta - SQL Windows and I can't determine, where :on which side is problem Informix or Gupta.
